San Angelo Colts News Release

Robstown, TX---Road trips are almost never easy and the Colts (41-23) struggled on the teams' most recent journey. Tonight's 6-3 defeat to the Coastal Bend Thunder (28-35) marked the final contest of an eight game swing where the team went 3-5.

The scoring began in the top of the second inning. With a runner at first base, Josh Collazo struck a double to left-center scoring Nick Mahin. San Angelo nabbed a 1-0 advantage.

That lead would not last long; a two-run blast off the bat of Leivi Ventura, in the third, gave the Thunder it's first edge at 2-1.

The long ball plagued San Angelo as Coastal bend continued it's assault in the fifth inning. With ducks on the pond, Carlos Rodriguez drilled a grand slam over the wall, in left-center, to make it 6-1.

San Angelo pushed a run across in the sixth inning. Bryan Frichter led off with a double. A deep fly ball to right allowed Frichter to tag and move to third base. A groundball out to short stop scored Frichter and San Angelo cut the deficit to four runs.

A solo blast by Collazo in the eighth inning, his fourth of the year, made it a 6-3 game; but that was all the offense the road team was able to muster.

With the victory, the Thunder earned a split of the four game series. In the season, however, the Colts took 12 of the 16 matchups.

Colts starter Kenny Elkind (3-2) earned the loss after working 2.1 innings, allowing two earned runs. Tom Martin threw .2 innings of work of shutout ball. Matt Duff went five innings giving up eight hits and four earned runs. Left-hander Ricardo Morales (3-1) recorded the win while Miliade Venas grabbed his first save of the year.

San Angelo and Amarillo will face off starting tomorrow. Sunday marks the first of four between two of the top teams in the United League. First pitch at Foster Field is scheduled for 5:05 pm while the gates open at 4:05. The Kemps pre-game show will begin at 4:50 pm.
