Roadrunners Run Wild in Win Over WhiteWings

EDINBURG - The Edinburg Roadrunners stole five bases in eight attempts in a 9-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings Sunday at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The WhiteWings are now losers of eight-straight and 0-10 against the Roadrunners this season.

The WhiteWings (14-20) jumped on Eric Montoya (6-1) right away. Javis Diaz led off the game with a double on an 0-2 pitch and Kevin Griffin walked. A wild pitch advanced the runner and Yeurys Tejeda hit a two-run single to make it 2-0.

The Roadrunners (25-8) responded against Misael DeJesus (0-3) in the bottom of the inning. Wilmer Pino drew a four-pitch leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third when the throw went into centerfield. Felix Molina followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-1.

Vincent Blue led off the bottom of the second with a walk, moved to third on a single by Carlos Hereaud and scored on a double-steal to tie the game at 2-2.

Pino led off the third with an infield-single, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Wilson Batista followed with an RBI-triple and scored when the throw to third went into the WhiteWings dugout to make it 4-2 Roadrunners.

Molina led off the top of the fifth with a double and scored on a two-out single by Blue to make it 5-2.

The WhiteWings got one back on a one-out RBI-double by Eric Gonzalez in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-3.

The Roadrunners added four in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Melvin Perez walked, Ambiroix Concepcion was hit by a pitch and Blue walked against Marcel Prado to load the bases. Michael Barbosa came in and allowed a two-run single to Hereaud and a two-run triple to Robert Matlock to make it 9-3.

The WhiteWings return to Harlingen Field for nine games in seven days, starting with one against the Laredo Broncos Monday at 7:05 p.m. Gates for the game open at 6:05. Right-hander Andres Rosales (1-2) is expected to face right-hander Eric Eden (1-1) The WhiteWings will host a free youth baseball clinic on the field with WhiteWings players at 5:00 p.m. All participants get a free reserved grandstand ticket to the game. Gates open at 4:45.
