Colts Split But Still Streaking

Laredo, Texas--- After a game one win the Colts and Broncos played a double-header to make up for Thursday's rainout. It was a tale of two games as the Colts went into extra innings in game one, but lost 5-4 and won 6-3 in game two splitting the twin bill. In game one San Angelo did not score in the first but Mark Ramos' single extended his streak of reaching base safely to 25 straight games. The Colts did score first however and led 1-0 in the top of the second on a Tyler Goodro RBI single. The Broncos scored a pair in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by Ryan Flynn and an RBI single by David Fowler and led 2-1 after two. The Colts did not score in the top of the third but newly named Captain Ronnie Gaines doubled extending his hitting streak to 22 straight games. The Broncos added another run in the third on an RBI single by Nick Mahin to take a two run lead at 3-1.

San Angelo scored two on a Landon Camp two run blast and the game was tied at 3-3 in the sixth. With the game being a seven inning contest it went into extra innings and the Colts put one on the board in the ninth on a Jason Crosland fielders choice that scored Mark Ramos to put the Colts in front 4-3. With just three outs need the Colts brought in closer Michael Hacker who got off two a rough start walking the first two batters he faced. After a sac bunt that put runners on second and third, Jonathan Cisneros sac fly tied it a 4-4. With David Fowler on third Carlos Arroyo hit a slow roller to third that Landon Camp could not get to and Fowler scored giving Laredo two in the ninth for a walk off 5-4 win as Hacker's blown save led to a game one loss for both him and the Colts.

In game two the Colts did not score in the first but Mark Ramos single to reach base safely for the 26 consecutive game and Ronnie Gaines doubled to extend his hitting streak to 23 straight games. The Colts struck first again on an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines in the top of the third and lead 1-0. San Angelo added another run in the fourth on a leadoff homer by Landon Camp who after homering in game one has hit a long ball in three straight games and it was 2-0 Colts. Laredo countered with a solo run in the bottom of the fourth on sac fly by Jonathan Cisneros to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Colts added some major insurance in the fifth scoring four times on Jason Crosland's RBI double, an Adam Hale RBI groundout, a Mike Horn RBI single (both his professional firsts) and a past ball that scored Jason Crosland and the Colts were up 6-1. Laredo scored solo runs in the fifth and sixth on an RBI single by Jason Diaz and a solo homerun by Kenneth Gilbert to cut it to 6-3, but that was as close as they got as the Colts win by that final. Michael Hacker, who had a blown save and a loss in game, one redeemed himself in a big way coming on to close it out in game two by striking out the side in order to seal the game two win. The Colts split the double-header and have a two to one lead in the series and will try to take three of four on Sunday Independence Day. The Colts will spend July 4 fittingly at Veterans Field as Laredo and the Colts play the final game of this four game set. The Colts send out righty Brian Henschel (2-3, 5.29) against fellow righty Juan Peralta (2-0, 3.19). It all begins with the Kemps pre-game show beginning at 7:20 with the first pitch set for 7:35 on 1260 KKSA.
