Edinburg Roadrunners News Release

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- Led by starting pitcher Miguel Martinez who struck out seven in seven and a third innings pitched, the Edinburg Roadrunners defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder 7-4 on Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Martinez (2-2) allowed four runs while scattering nine hits and at one point retired 10 hitters in a row.

The offense gave Martinez the early lead in the first after a walk to Bryon Smith, a single by Hunter Owen, and Carlos Hereaud's three-run homerun to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.

Amado German started the bottom of the second inning with a walk then later scored on an RBI walk by Bryon Smith that made the score 4-0. Hunter Owen then singled to right for his first professional RBI which made the score 5-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning an RBI sacrifice fly by Vincent Blue extended the Roadrunners' lead to 6-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, an error by Thunder shortstop Amadeo Zazueta allowed Hereaud to score from third which made the score 7-0.

Martinez did not allow a run in until the top of the seventh inning which was unearned due to a fielding error that allowed Bryan Vickers to score from second base to make it a 7-1 game.

The Thunder scored three runs in the top of the eighth on an RBI single and two RBI walks to bring them within three, but Kelly Casares pitched an inning and a third of scoreless baseball for his second save of the season with the Roadrunners coming out on top 7-4.
