Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - Amarillo Dillas first baseman Trent Lockwood came into Friday's game already leading the league in homeruns and was third in RBIs. He did nothing but to improve his position as he went 4-5 with six RBI including his league-leading 10th homerun for a 14-8 win over the Laredo Broncos at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 3,142 fans.
Dillas starter Jesse Rodriguez (1-1) got the win in an out short of six innings and allowed all eight runs of the Broncos. Laredo starter Travis Parker (2-2) got the loss as he gave up the first four Amarillo runs and couldn't get out of the first inning. Amarillo's Carlos Figueroa went 4-5 with four runs scored while Terrance McClain went 2-5 with two runs scored and three RBIs in the effort
The first inning featured plenty of runs as the Broncos scored with a Argelis Nunez RBI double, but Amarillo responded by plating four of their own including a two-run single by Lockwood to move the Dillas up by three at 4-1.
Amarillo would add four more in the second, three coming by way of Lockwood's long ball for a seven-run lead. They would add two more in the third on a pair of RBI singles by McClain and Lockwood for a 10-1 advantage.
Laredo would put more runs on the board in the fourth with an RBI triple by Anthony Bennett and an RBI single by Jamie Morales for an 10-3 score. The Dillas would add another in the fifth on a McClain fielder's choice, to seemingly put the game out of reach.
The Broncos would not quit as they brought nine batters to the plate and five runners across it, including a three-run homerun by Mario Mendez to close the gap to three at 11-8.
Amarillo would not relent with a run in the seventh and a two in the eighth, all three scoring on errors for a 14-8 lead, which would be how the game ended.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 15-14, while the Broncos fall to 9-20. Saturday, Amarillo will host Laredo for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
