
Roadrunners Defeat Thunder 11-3

EDINBURG, Texas---- The Edinburg Roadrunners (6-2) defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder (3-5) 11-3 Thursday night at Fairgrounds Field to earn a split in the four-game series.
Tim Haines (1-0) picked up the win after working six innings and allowing one run on five hits and striking out six on the night.
Eric Gonzalez hit a three-run homerun in the top of the first inning off of Thunder pitcher Carlos Rangel to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.
Robert Matlock then added another run in the top of the second inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Thunder got on the score board with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Casey Gordon which scored Amadeo Zazueta from third base to make the score 4-1.
The Roadrunners scored six more runs in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 10-1.
RBI singles by Leivi Ventura and Manny Mejia in the bottom of the seventh inning added two more runs for the Thunder which made the score 10-3.
The Roadrunners added another run in the top of the eighth inning to make the final score 11-3.
Rangel (0-1) picked up the loss for the Thunder after pitching four innings and allowing four runs on five hits.
The Roadrunners head to Amarillo to face the Dillas (4-4) in a four-game series starting Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Miguel Martinez will take the ball for the Roadrunners in game one as he looks for his first win of the season.
