Dillas Win Another Thunderstorm Shortened Game

Amarillo - In a game that lasted four and a half innings due to severe thunderstorms in the area, the Amarillo Dillas (4-4) beat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (4-4) 9-3 tonight at Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

The Dillas got on the board against Juan Peralta (0-0) in the second. Stantrel Smith singled. Sam McLain and Justin Wenger followed with walks. Willie James and Keanon Simon hit back-to-back RBI-ground outs to make it 2-0.

The Dillas sent 11 batters to the plate while scoring seven runs in the third. Carlos Figueroa led off with a double and Terrance McClain walked. Trent Lockwood and Smith hit RBI-singles. McLain then walked and Justin Wenger hit an RBI-single. Jamesreached on a fielder's choice and Simon hit an RBI-double to knock out Peralta. Todd Lutz came in and gave up a two-run single to Andrew Wong, making it 9-0.

In the fourth, Jonathan Potterson hit a leadoff home run against Josh Smith (1-1) to make it 9-1.

With two outs in the fifth, Alberto Cruz singled and Poterson hit his fourth home run of the season to make it 9-3.

In the complete game victory, Smith struck out eight, including six of the first eight batters he faced, while allowing five hits, one walk, and hitting three batters.

The WhiteWings and travel to San Angelo for the start of a four-game series with the Colts tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Foster Field. Left-hander Jorge Lugo (1-0) will face right-hander Matt Duff (0-1).
