Roadrunners Beat Dillas

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- Vincent Blue went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the Amarillo Dillas 6-1 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Eric Montoya (4-1) picked up his fourth win of the season after he allowed one run while striking out 10 in eight innings of work.

Amarillo got on the board against Montoya in the first with an RBI ground out by Carlos Figueroa that scored Keanon Simon from third to make it a 1-0 game.

The Roadrunners (28-27) responded in the bottom of the second when Bryon Smith led off the inning with a single followed by an RBI triple down the first base line by Vincent Blue that allowed Smith to score from first to tie things at one. Eric Gonzalez followed with an RBI double to left field that drove in Blue for a 2-1 Edinburg lead.

Carlos Hereaud led off the bottom of the third with a triple to deep center field then came into score on an RBI single by Smith that extended the Roadrunners lead 3-1.

The Edinburg's offense continued in the bottom of the fifth as Smith drew a walk against Dillas starter Justin Phillips (1-3). Blue then hit an RBI double to right center field that allowed Smith to score from first. Blue then moved to third on a fly ball by Gonzalez and with two outs Osiel Flores drove him in with an RBI single to left that made it a 5-1 game in favor of Edinburg.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Blue hit a single to center field, stole second, then moved to third on a throwing error by Dillas catcher Justin Wenger who eventually allowed the ball to get by him allowing Blue to cross home plate giving the Roadrunners' the 6-1 advantage.

Bryan Heaston worked a perfect ninth inning to finish the ball game in relief of Montoya giving Edinburg the third win of the series with Amarillo.

The Roadrunners and Dillas (29-26) will play the final game of this four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Pedro Flores (3-3) is expected to face Ralph Roberts (5-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
