Amarillo Dillas News Release
MCALLEN, TX - The Amarillo Dillas did not allow an Edinburg Roadrunner batter past second base through eight innings, but the Roadrunners came back with two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 2-1 win over the Dillas on Wednesday night at Edinburg Stadium in front of 1,021 fans.
Dillas reliever Matt Smith (2-3) got the loss as he allowed the winning runner to reach base. Danny Rondon (4-0) as he allowed seven hits and only one run in a complete game victory. Dillas starter Dustin Taylor had his best start of the season in eight innings, only allowing six hits and one run in the effort,.
Amarillo took the lead in the Stantrel Smith singled and came across to score on an Anthony Bennett groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
Edinburg seemed to tie the game in the fourth inning as Robert Matlock lined a pitch to left field, as the Dillas Anthony Bennett dove for the ball and rolled up on his wrist. Matlock never stopped running and reached all the way to home as the call was an inside-the-park homerun by infield umpire Brian Childe. Homeplate umpire Gerald Odette discussed what he saw with Childe and the ball was ruled as caught by Bennett for the out to keep the score in favor of the Dillas.
The Roadrunners got their first runner past second base as Carlos Hereaud led off with a triple. Taylor was pulled in favor of Smith. The Dillas reliever struck out Hunter Owen, allowed a walk to Bryon Smith and was relieved in favor of Coby Mavroulis. Vince Blue hit an RBI double to score Hereaud, to move the winning run at third. After intentionally walking Eric Gonzalez to load the bases, Mavroulis allowed an RBI walkoff single to first base by Osiel Flores for a 2-1 Roadrunners victory.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 29-25, while the Roadrunners improve to 27-27. Thursday, Amarillo will face Edinburg for the third game of a four-game series at 7:00pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
