Morales Dominates WhiteWings

Robstown - Coastal Bend starting pitcher Ricardo Morales (2-1) pitched a complete game seven-hitter against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to win 9-4 tonight at Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds Field.

Moarles retired the first seven WhiteWings (24-30) he faced. After allowing a single to Sandy DeLeon, he retired the next four. With two outs in the top of the fourth, Brian Nichols hit his seventh home run of the season to make it 4-1. Morales struck out three and did not issue any walks.

The WhiteWings got the other three runs in the ninth. Agustin Septimo led off with a single. One out later Rico Santana singled and Brian Nichols hit a two-run triple. Welinson Baez hit an RBI-groundout to complete the scoring.

The Thunder (25-29) got on the board against Juan Peralta (1-3) in the bottom of the second. Carlos Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk and moved to third on a two-out single by Mike Garcia. Michael Lewis followed with an RBI-single to make it 1-0.

Leivi Ventura led off the third with a walk and Manny Meija singled. After a groundout advanced the runners, Rodriguez was intentionally walked to set-up the double play. Amadeo Zazueta followed with an RBI- single on which Meija was thrown out at home trying to score. Bryan Vickers hit a two-run double to make it 4-0.

The Thunder got that run right back in the bottom of the fourth. Michael Lewis led off with a single, stole second and scored on a two- out single by Meija to make it 5-1.

With one out in the seventh against Mark Ramos, making his professional debut, Alex Fernandez and Rodriguez singled, Zazueta hit an RBI-double, Vickers hit an RBI-single, and Lewis hit a two-out RBI- single to make it 8-1.

In the ninth, Mejia hit a one-out double and scored on a two-out single by Rodriguez to make it 9-1.

The WhiteWings and Thunder play game three of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05. Left-hander Carlos Artiles (2-1) is expected to face right-hander J.J. Trujillo (2-1).
