Seven Run Third Sends Roadrunners Past Dillas

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- A seven run bottom of the third inning helped the Edinburg Roadrunners defeat the Amarillo Dillas 10-1 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Miguel Martinez (4-4) picked up his fourth win of the season after he allowed one run while scattering four hits in eight innings of work.

Carlos Hereaud got the Roadrunners on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI single that allowed Wilmer Pino to score for a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third Edinburg (26-27) posted seven runs against Dilla's starter Richard Jessup (4-4) starting with Robert Matlock with the walk and then moving to third on a single by Hereaud and eventually crossing home plate after a double steal. Hunter Owen followed with a single which put runners at the corners for Bryon Smith who then hit an RBI single to left field plating Hereaud. Vincent Blue then walked to load the bases for Eric Gonzalez who was then hit by a pitch that allowed Owen to score from third. Cameron McGuire followed with an RBI walk that drove in Smith for the fourth run of the inning. Osiel Flores then hit a sacrifice fly that allowed Blue to touch home plate. Wilmer Pino capped the scoring for the Roadrunners with a two-run double that allowed Gonzalez and McGuire to score which made the score 8-1.

Amarillo (29-24) got their first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning when Anthony Bennett hit a two-out RBI single that drove in Terrance McClain from third to make it an 8-1 game.

Wilmer Pino started the bottom of the sixth inning with a double to left field and Hereaud followed with an RBI double to left center that allowed Pino to score from second. Owen then hit an RBI double that allowed Hereaud to touch home plate that made it 10-1.

The Roadrunners and Dillas will play game two of this four-game series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Danny Rondon (3-0) is expected to face Dustin Taylor (2-5) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
