Road Woes Continue for Saints, Lose 10-4 to RailCats

GARY, IN (June 20, 2013) - The St. Paul Saints may want to try a different ritual on the road because for the third straight game away from Midway Stadium the Saints allowed double digit in runs and hits. On Thursday night at U.S. Steel Yard it was the second worst hitting team in the league, the Gary SouthShore Railcats, that took advantage of the Saints. The Saints lost 10-4.

With the game tied at one in the third the Saints took a two run lead. Dan Kaczrowski walked and with one out moved to second on Joey Becker's single. Becker finished the night 4-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Brad Boyer walked to load the bases. Willie Cabrera came through with a two-run single to give the Saints a 3-1 lead.

The Railcats responded by taking the lead in the fourth sending nine men to the plate. Drew Martinez led off with a single to right. He advanced to second on a ground out and then scored when Chase Tucker reached on an infield single to short and Adam Frost's throw went awry allowing Martinez to score while Tucker took second as the Saints lead was cut to 3-2. Adam Klein's infield single moved Tucker to third. A passed ball allowed the tying run to score and Mike Massaro gave the Railcats a 4-3 lead with an RBI single.

The Saints tied it in the fifth when Becker led off with a double, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brandon Tripp.

The game was blown wide open when the Railcats put up six in the sixth. Klein led off with a single to left-center and Massaro followed with a single. With one out and runners at second and third, Ryan Babineau launched a three-run homer to left, his first of the season, to make it 7-4 Railcats. Dustin Klabunde took over for Wes Roemer, who was thrown out in the midst of Steve Liddle's at bat, and Liddle walked. Brian Kolb doubled him to third. Martinez followed with an RBI single and Zac Mitchell added a two-run single to finish the scoring.

It's the third consecutive road game the Saints have allowed at least six runs in an inning. They have now given up 48 runs in their last five road games.

The same two teams meet in the second game of the four game series on Friday night at U.S. Steel Yard. The Saints send RHP Luke Anderson (1-2, 7.00) to the mound against Railcats LHP James Adkins (0-0, 4.50). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
