Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - Ryan Babineau's three-run home run broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth as part of a six-run inning as the RailCats took the first game against St. Paul with a 10-4 win. Gary (17-15) remains in third place in the Central Division, four games behind first-place Wichita.

Adam Klein and Mike Massaro started the sixth inning with back-to-back singles. With one out, Babineau blasted the tie-breaking three-run homer to left-his first of the year-to give the RailCats a 7-4 lead. Steve Liddle followed with a walk and Brian Kolb doubled. Drew Martinez hit an RBI single to right and Zac Mitchell followed with a two-run single into center to make it 10-4. The RailCats sent 10 men to the plate in the inning and scored six runs on six hits.

The Saints struck first as Brad Boyer continued his scorching start with an RBI single past second baseman Chase Tucker.

In the bottom of the first, the RailCats took advantage of the Saints poor defense in the field. Adam Klein led off the inning with a double and was still there with two out in the inning. Ryan Babineau then hit a grounder and forced a hurried throw from shortstop Adam Frost that went wild to tie the game at one.

St. Paul grabbed the lead in the third inning. The Saints loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hit before Willie Cabrera roped a two-run single to left to make it 3-1.

Gary came back to tie the game in the fourth inning. Drew Martinez led off with a single and Chase Tucker reached on an infield hit in which Frost again threw the ball away at first, allowing Martinez to score. Tucker later came home to score on a passed ball to tie it at three. Adam Klein singled and Mike Massaro bounced a run-scoring single to center to give the RailCats a 4-3 lead.

The Saints tied it in the fifth as Joey Becker doubled and came home to score on a sac fly by Brandon Tripp.

RailCats starter Morgan Coombs took a no-decision, surrendering four runs on seven hits in five innings. He walked four and struck out five.

Lefty reliever Boomer Potts (1-0) picked up his first win with the RailCats throwing 1 =A8=F7 innings of scoreless relief.

St. Paul starter Wes Roemer (3-4) was tagged with eight runs on 10 hits, three walks and struck out two to take his fourth loss of the season. Roemer was ejected from the game in the sixth inning after arguing balls and strikes.

Game two of the series is on Friday night at 7:10 at U. S. Steel Yard. There will be a post-game fireworks show on Fireworks Friday and the Fur Circus will perform before and during the game. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.railcatsbaseball.com .
