Road Woes Continue as Thunder Lose to Brahmas in a Shootout

North Richland Hills, TX (March 6th) - Wichita (32-17-8) has struggled recently on the road and that trend continued on Wednesday night, losing to Fort Worth (33-18-7) 3-2 in a shootout at the NYTEX Sports Centre. Wichita falls to 2-6 in shootouts this season and drops one point back of the Brahmas into third place. The Thunder win the season-series 5-2-1 and do have a game-in-hand on Fort Worth down the stretch.

Each team recorded two goals in the second period for the only scoring in regulation. Neil Trimm tallied his 29th of the season at 3:07 after Kristofer Westblom got caught out of the net and he buried it to make it 1-0. Brendon Hodge tied the game at 10:39 with a sharp angle shot along the right boards. At 18:40, Phil Fox gave the Brahmas a brief 2-1 advantage with a power play goal off a rebound. Kevin Young tied it 40 seconds later off a face-off with a rocket from the right point to send the game into the third tied at two.

After a scoreless third and overtime, Wichita headed to the shootout for the second time this season against Fort Worth. Hodge and Tomas Klempa scored in the first two rounds while Westblom stopped all four Thunder attempts to give the Brahmas a 3-2 win.

Wichita drops to 0-3-4 in its last seven road games. Young pulled into a first-place tie at the top of the scoring leader board by defensemen with 46 points. Trimm sits in a third place tie with 29 goals on the season. Jung took the shootout loss, stopping 22 of 24 shots.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play while Fort Worth was 1-for-4.

Wichita returns home on March 8th and 9th for a pair of home games. Friday night is Team Photo Night and Saturday Night is Alumni Night with the Thunder Alumni playing against the Men's League All-Stars before the game.
