Road Trip Ends with Second Shutout Loss

For the second straight night, the Lake Erie Monsters (9-6-0-0) managed 29 shots on goal, but were again held off the scoreboard, falling to the Abbotsford Heat (9-1-1-2) by a 2-0 score on Wednesday night. Sami Aittokallio started back-to-back games in net for the first time this season (3-0 loss to Abbotsford on Tuesday), and the rookie stopped 18 of 20 shots in the loss. Up until this week's games against the Heat, the Monsters had not been shut out yet this season.
With the loss, the Monsters wrap up a season-long seven-game road trip that saw the team carry a record of 4-3-0-0 over the seven contests.
There was no scoring in the game until the third period, when Abbotsford's Brett Olson scored the eventual game-winner from in front of the net on a centering feed from Ben Street at the 5:50 mark. Chris Breen scored on a shot into the top corner of the net at 10:42 to add an insurance tally for the Heat, making the score 2-0.
Sami Aittokallio (4-3-0) stopped 18 of 20 shots in net for the Monsters. Barry Brust earned his third shutout of the season in just his fourth start of the campaign, stopping 29 of 29. Brust stopped all 58 Monsters shots he faced over Tuesday and Wednesday night's action.
The Monsters are back at home Friday night to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at Quicken Loans Arena at 7:30 PM.
NOTES: The Monsters are now 4-3 in the month of November, and 7-4-0-0 on the road... Friday they return home to The Q, where they are 2-2-0-0 on the season... The Monsters have lost two-straight games for the second time this season, and are yet to have a losing streak longer than two contests... The Monsters are 1-3-0-0 against the Heat this season... Patrick Bordeleau skated in his 200th game as a Monster in the loss... the Monsters were 0-3 on the power play in the game, and are now 1-12 on the power play over their last four games... The Monsters have not scored on the power play over their last three games... The Monsters were 1-1 on the penalty kill, and are now a perfect 9-9 on the penalty kill in four meetings against Abbotsford this season.
