Frederick Keys News Release
The long ball continued to hurt Frederick as Myrtle beach belted three more home runs on Thursday night as the Keys fell for a third straight night on the Grand Strand, 8-4. All-in-all the Pelicans, who do not have a hitter with more than 12 home runs on the year, launched seven long balls in the last three games of the series.
Frederick took the early lead with a monstrous home run from RF Ronnie Welty. His 13th of the year went over the videoboard in left-center field to give the Keys a 1-0 advantage. It would be the Keys lone lead of the night.
The Pelicans rallied to tie the game in the second inning and got a solo home run from 2B Jordan Kreke in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Myrtle Beach scored an unearned run in the fifth inning and then got a solo home run from C Matt Kennelly, his third of the year, amidst a two-run sixth to lead, 5-1.
The Keys battled back in the seventh inning as with a run home and a runner at third base, 3B Miguel Abreu drove home his eighth run of the series with a hot shot double down the left field line. Abreu would score two batters later when 1B Buck Britton singled him home to bring the Keys within 5-4.
But the Keys rally would be quickly nullified as Myrtle Beach 1B Mike Jones hit a solo home run down the line it right field starting a three-run rally that would bury Frederick.
The season series ended tied at 10-games apiece.
It will be a fireworks night at Harry Grove Stadium as the Keys return home to host Winston-Salem on Friday, August 13th at 7:00 p.m. for NFL Night presented by Bryant. Fans that wear an NFL jersey will receive two dollars off of any non-suite level ticket in the park if purchased at the box office on the day of the event. The Keys will have RHO Oliver Drake on the hill looking for a second consecutive win.
