THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats won game three of the four-game series with Potomac, 4-1...Lynchburg tallied 12 hits in the game and UTIL Neftali Soto belted his team-leading 17th home run...Tonight is the eighth game of a an eight-game road trip that will wrap up a stretch of 13 out of 16 on the road...The Cats are 5-2 on this current road trip that concludes tonight...
VS. POTOMAC: The Hillcats are 8-11 against the Nationals thus far this season, going 4-6 at City Stadium and 4-5 at Pfitzner Stadium...Lynchburg is 162-156 against Potomac all-time...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9...
FLY AWAY FROM HERE: The Hillcats are now 11-8 in their last 19 road games...On the flip side, they are 3-13 in their last 16 games at home...The Cats went 2-3 on their most recent road swing and 4-3 on the one prior to that...Those two road swings included series victories at Winston-Salem and Frederick, the two teams that won their respective divisions in the first half...
HELTER SKELTER: The Hillcats have made 82 transactions so far this season, and have seen a total of 52 different players on its roster...OF Andrew Means and RHP Josh Ravin are the two most recent additions...This season 49 different players have seen game action, as RHP Dallas Buck was on Lynchburg's roster for one day in April and did not appear in a game...Because of their recent promotion, Means and Ravin also have not appeared...
EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM: The Hillcats have scored in the first inning in the past four games, including the series finale with Kinston...That doesn't include the completion of the suspended game, when the Hillcats also scored in the first frame at City Stadium...In those four games, the Hillcats are 3-1 and have scored 19 total runs...Overall in 2010, Lynchburg is 35-21 when scoring first...OF Kyle Day hit a grand slam in Sunday's finale with Kinston and drove in two in the first inning of Tuesday's loss...OF Denis Phipps homered in Monday's series opener, and INF Chris Richburg drove in a first-inning run yesterday...
STARSKY AND HOTCH: RHP Jordan Hotchkiss threw five and two-thirds shutout innings, gave up four hits and struck out six in yesterday's win...Since making his first start May 29, he's thrown five quality starts and has allowed two or fewer runs in 11 of his 14 starts...In his last four games, Hotchkiss is 3-1, with a 2.45 ERA (7 ER in 25.2 IP) and 22 K...He leads the league in ERA (2.26) and WHIP (1.01) and is second in Opp Avg (.207)...
THE SHANE-ING: INF Shane Carlson went 1-for-4 yesterday, extending his hitting streak to a season-long 10 games dating back to July 23...Over that time, Carlson is 14-for-39(.359) with four multi-hit games and 6 RBI... the RBI total in the span more than doubled his total with the Hillcats before the stretch...He has raised his batting average from .234 to .282...The streak is the longest active streak (Richburg also has an active streak at eight), and the third longest so far this season...Day's 15-game streak that was snapped during the last homestand is the longest, followed by OF Josh Fellhauer and INF Alex Buchholz tied for second, each with 11-game hit streaks...
HOLE IN MY SOUL: C Jordan Wideman went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run and threw out a potential base thief Thursday...This was just one day after he received the news that one of his five sisters had passed away... He left the team Friday to attend the funeral in Canada, and rejoined the team in Potomac Sunday night... Monday he went 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored...It was Wideman's fourth multi-hit game (second straight) of the season and the first contest all year that he had three hits...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Trevor Holder was a third round selection by the Nationals in the 2009 draft out of the University of Georgia...In four years with the Bulldogs he went a combined 22-15 with a 4.51 ERA in 73 games (50 starts)...Last year he made his professional debut last year with Short Season Low-A Vermont and had no decisions in two starts with a 5.06 ERA...He next made three starts with full season Low-A Hagerstown and went 2-0 with a 3.55 ERA with the Suns...He finished the season with Potomac and posted a 2-3 mark with a 9.26 ERA in six starts...This season he returned to Hagerstown and had a 4-3 mark with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts before earning a promotion back to the P-Nats...With Potomac he has gone 0-2 with a 4.36 ERA in ten games (nine starts)...Holder made his last start of the season last year against Lynchburg and gave up eight runs (six earned) in four and 1/3 innings and took the loss at Pfitzner Stadium...This season he has started against the Hillcats twice and has gone 0-1 while giving up seven runs, four earned in 7.2 IP June 20 and August 2...
