Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD - The Frederick Keys, Advanced Class-A Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, have signed a four-year extension to continue its affiliation with the Baltimore Orioles through the 2014 season. The Double-A Bowie Baysox and Triple-A Norfolk Tides have also signed four year extensions with the Baltimore Orioles.
"We are extremely excited to continue our partnership with the Baltimore Orioles franchise" said Tides president Ken Young. "The proximity of Baltimore is a natural geographical fit for Norfolk, Bowie and Frederick, and we are thrilled that our fans will continue to get the opportunity to watch their favorite Orioles prospects move up the organizational ladder. The Orioles have also served as such a valuable force in our communities, and we look forward to working with them to ensure the next four years are even more successful."
The Keys have the second-longest tenured relationship with its parent affiliate in the Carolina League. Frederick has been an Orioles affiliate since its inception in 1989. Only the Kinston Indians (1987) have been affiliated with its parent club longer. The Keys are also one of just two teams (Myrtle Beach Pelicans) who have only had one affiliate in the history of the franchise in the Carolina League.
"We are very pleased to continue our working agreements with the Norfolk, Bowie and Frederick clubs," said Orioles President of Baseball Operations, Andy MacPhail. "We have formed great partnerships with each of these clubs and look forward to continue developing our talent in the supportive environment that these cities provide."
In its proud 22-year history the Keys have had over 100 players move through Frederick up the ranks to the major leagues including standouts Brian Roberts, Jayson Werth, Nick Markakis and Matt Wieters. The Keys are three-time Carolina League Champions (1990, 2005, and 2007) who will be in the playoffs again in 2010 after winning the Northern Division in the first half.
Playoff Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, August 11th at 9:00 a.m. as the Keys look to claim the fourth Mills Cup in team history. The playoffs begin in Frederick with Game One of the Northern Division Championship Series set for Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
