Long Island Ducks News Release
(Bridgewater N.J., June 27, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-3 in 10 innings on Wednesday night in the final game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.
Long Island struck first, as Reid Gorecki scored from second on an error by Patriots catcher Lou Santangelo in the second inning. Somerset answered with two runs in the third to take the lead on an error by Ducks right fielder Kraig Binick.
It stayed that way until the seventh when the Pats pushed the score to 3-1 on a RBI double by Dan DeGeorge. However, the Ducks rallied to tie the game at three on a run-scoring double play ball in the eighth and a RBI single by Mitch Canham in the ninth. Gorecki put the Ducks ahead for good in the 10th with a two-out, three-run homer, his second three-run blast in as many nights.
Both starters locked in another pitcher's duel, but neither factored into the decision. Chacin tossed six innings, allowing just four hits and two unearned runs while striking out two, and Cassel lasted five innings, yielding one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Jon Hunton (2-0) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, while Mike Solbach (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in two innings of relief.
Bryant Nelson paced the Flock with three hits, while Canham added two. Gorecki's three RBI and two runs scored also led the way.
The Ducks return home on Thursday to open up a seven-game homestand, as they host the Sugar Land Skeeters for the very first time. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Quackers, courtesy of Newsday. In addition, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for discounts at Verace Authentic Italian Restaurant to fans.
Tickets for the game and all Ducks home games are available by visiting the Bethpage Ballpark Box Office, calling (631) 940-TIXX, or visiting www.liducks.com. Fans unable to make the game can follow the action live online at LIDucks.com by clicking the Watch Live icon on the homepage. Streaming video and audio will be provided by iBN, the Internet Broadcast Network. Right-hander Bob Zimmermann gets the start for the Flock against former Ducks southpaw Heath Phillips.
