
Former Major Leaguer Returns to Fish Tank

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 27, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Juan Rincon. Rincon returns to the Bluefish for his second season in the Atlantic League and 16th of professional baseball. Before coming to the Park City this year, the former Major Leaguer spent time with Triple-A Salt Lake of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim organization. In 17 appearances (three starts), he compiled a 3.12 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 26 innings of work.
"It's tremendous to have a pitcher like Juan back on our ballclub," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He had an outstanding season with us in 2011 and has an excellent track record throughout his career."
The 33-year-old impressed during his Atlantic League debut with the 'Fish last season. In 42 games, the reliever posted a 2-1 record with a 2.98 ERA, 23 saves and 51 punchouts over the course of 45 innings pitched. The reliever has spent 10 seasons in the Big Leagues, making his debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2001 and his final appearance in The Show coming in 2010 with the Colorado Rockies. He was an important member of the Twins bullpen during the mid 2000's with his best season coming in 2004. The 32-year-old posted a 2.63 ERA in 82 innings pitched with personal-bests in wins (11), appearances (77) and strikeouts (106). Rincon owns a 35-29 career Major League record with a 4.03 ERA and 469 strikeouts in 444 appearances. Juan was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Minnesota Twins in 1996.
In corresponding roster moves, the Bluefish have activated infielder Norberto Susini and released pitcher Wynn Pelzer and infielder Sergio Miranda.
