(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 27, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (25-34) have won the teams' 1,000th game in franchise history after taking down the York Revolution (31-28) by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

There were a number of great victories in years past. The first Bridgeport victory was on May 21, 1998 against the Newark Bears at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard with current Bench Coach, Terry McGriff as the starting catcher that day. His battery mate at the mound was the All-Time Bluefish wins leader in Al Sontag (52). The tandem who contributed to the landmark victory was Bluefish starter, and Connecticut-native Mike Tarsi and catcher Luis Rodriguez.

Tarsi (1-0) picked up his first victory of the season in his first start since 2010. The lefthander pitched five innings and allowed only three hits and one walk, while striking out six batters. Chris Hayes relieved Tarsi in the sixth and allowed only one unearned run over the course of three-and-one third innings of work. Lefthander Rommie Lewis recorded the final two outs of the ballgame for the save. York starter Chris Cody (4-7) suffered the loss after giving up two runs on six hits over six innings pitched.

Elliott Ayala produced the only offense needed for the victory on Wednesday. The designated hitter went 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBI. Luis Lopez also collected two hits for the 'Fish.

"The 1,000 win milestone is one that the entire Bluefish organization, past and present, should be very proud of," says Bluefish owner/CEO Frank Boulton. "Fifteen years of Bridgeport Bluefish baseball has yielded a winning record both on and off the field. Much credit should be given to former owners Mickey Herbert, Mary Jane Foster and Jack McGregor as well as long time General Manager Charlie Dowd and Bluefish General Manager Bob Goughan. Players, Coaches and Managers past and present have all greatly contributed to our 1,000 win mark. It should be noted that our very talented manager Willie Upshaw has earned 428 of the 1,000 victories. I know that Willie will agree that we can now focus on the next 1,000 wins and start by winning the second half."

Willie Upshaw has seen most of the success in the Park City. He had been the Manager of the Bluefish from 1998-2000 and from the second half of 2009 through this season. During his stretch of games with the squad, the Manager has 428 of the 1,000 wins in Bluefish history. The stretch includes playoff appearances in four of his five seasons he served as manager for the full season.

The memorable moments for Upshaw spanned from the only championship in franchise history, back in 1999, to the run of success in 2010. The Bridgeport squad finished with the most wins (83) in franchise history, the best record in one half (47-23) in club history and owned the second most wins of any team, in a half, in League History. The 2000 Atlantic City Surf produced 48 victories in a half.

The Bluefish start a four-game road series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Bridgeport will send lefthanded pitcher, Dan Serafini (1-0, 0.64 ERA), to the hill against lefthander Roy Merritt (4-1, 3.07 ERA). Bluefish fans can listen to the game on bridgeportbluefish.com. The voice of the Bridgeport Bluefish, Perry Miles, will have the call of the action. The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.

The Bluefish start the final home series of the first half against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Monday July 2. Individual tickets for the game are available at the Box Office, online at www.bridgeportbluefish.com, or by calling (203) 345-4800.
