Road Miles Catch Up To Wheat Kings Against Tigers

Two of the three periods were fairly evenly matched between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday, November 25. During the uneven period, however, Medicine Hat made the Wheat Kings pay for some costly mistakes.

Andrew Basha scored four times and Zach Zahara stopped 23 of 24 Wheat Kings shots as the Tigers took a 6-1 win. Nate Danielson scored the lone goal for the Wheat Kings, with Ethan Eskit finishing the game after relieving Carson Bjarnason in the second frame.

"At times, I think we created a lot more offense," said Wheat Kings head coach and GM Marty Murray. "But you can't give up the chances we did. Special teams, they had three power play goals and we were goalless on the power play. It was a difference in the game."

The Tigers' power play did the bulk of the lifting for them in the first period. First, Basha followed up his own rebound on a blocked shot, then fired home his first of the period. Then, just seven seconds into their second power play, Basha deftly tipped home a cross-crease pass.

Ironically, it was that same Tigers power play that spotted the Wheat Kings some momentum back. On a clean breakout, Charlie Elick fed Brett Hyland, who moved it over to Danielson. The captain placed his shot with pinpoint accuracy to bring the Wheat Kings back within one.

But the Tigers' power play didn't appear shaken up by the goal against. After Rhett Parsons restored the two-goal lead, Dru Krebs drove the back post on another power play and swatted home the pass.

Basha's third and fourth goal wrapped up the scoring. First, he knocked home a cross-crease pass by Bogdans Hodass. Then, sprung on a breakaway in the third, he finished up his offensive outburst with a shot to the five hole.

The loss moves the Wheat Kings to 1-2 on the road trip. They have a chance to finish it .500 when they face the Raiders in Prince Albert tomorrow night. Puck drop is 6:00 Central Time.
