
Riversharks Sweep Patriots

Somerset Patriots News Release
CAMDEN, NJ- The Camden Riversharks defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-5 in front of 2,325 fans at Campbell's Field on Wednesday evening.
Camden rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 6-5. Pinch hitter Bobby Gandolfo hit a one out single to right, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Patriots' fielding error on a two out bunt back to the mound by shortstop Gary Cates. Centerfielder Nic Jackson then followed with a walk off two run home run (3) to right.
The Patriots broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead when shortstop Elliott Ayala led off with a walk, advanced to second on a hit-by-pitch to catcher Travis Anderson and scored on a two out RBI single to right by leftfielder Michael Ryan.
The Riversharks answered with two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Cates hit a one out infield single to third and moved to third when Jackson followed with a double down the right field line. Catcher Jason Phillips then hit a two run single up the middle to plate both Cates and Jackson.
Somerset countered with an eight batter, four run, top of third inning to retake the lead at 5-2. First baseman Vito Chiaravalloti drew a lead off walk and came around to score on a one out triple in right center field by rightfielder Matt Hagen. Ayala followed with a RBI single up the middle to score Hagen and then Anderson followed by ripping a RBI triple down the right field line to plate Ayala. Centerfielder Sean Smith then lined a two out RBI double to left center that scored Anderson.
Camden plated a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Patriots lead to 5-3 when Jackson hit a one out triple into the right field corner and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by Phillips.
Riversharks' reliever Jeremy Lewis (3-0) picked up the win, throwing a scoreless inning while striking out one. Patriots's reliever Brian Reith (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, all unearned, on two hits while striking out two and walking none in 0.2 innings pitched.
With the loss the Patriots dropped to 29-22 on 2008 season while the Riversharks improved to 31-20.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on Thursday, June 19th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
