Peoria Rivermen News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen got 34 saves from goaltender David Jacobson as they won their second straight game, 2-0 over the Mississippi RiverKings in Carver Arena Saturday night. The win improves Peoria to 36-12-3 with five games remaining in the regular season.
The Rivermen opened the scoring on the power play at 14:41 of the first. With Mississippi's Sam Higgins in the box for throwing equipment, the Rivermen worked the puck to Cody Dion in the left corner. Dion's centering attempt was rejected back to him, he came out of the corner and rifled a wrist shot past RiverKings netminder Peter Di Salvo to give Peoria a 1-0 lead.
The 1-0 lead would hold throughout the majority of the game, as David Jacobson made 34 saves, including denying a penalty shot from Max Cook at 11:36 of the third period to keep the score 1-0. After Mississippi pulled Di Salvo in favor of an extra attacker in the game's final minute, Rivermen winger Matt Summers was called for high sticking at 19:12 to leave the Rivermen short-handed. After the RiverKings retreated into neutral ice with the puck, Alec Hagaman picked off a pass straddling the Peoria blue line and fired the puck down into the empty net with 4.3 seconds left to seal a 2-0 victory.
Jacobson stopped all 34 shots he faced in net to earn his second professional shutout. Both of Jacobson's pro shutouts have come in his last two home appearances, dating back to a 53-save performance March 6 against Pensacola.
