Louisiana IceGators News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla.--The Louisiana IceGators' struggles against the Pensacola IceFlyers continue.

Corey Banfield recorded a hat trick to lead the IceFlyers to a 4-2 victory over the IceGators Friday night. It's the IceFlyers' ninth consecutive win over the IceGators this season.

The tenth and final match between the IceGators and the IceFlyers will take place in Lafayette Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. in the Cajundome.

"I don't know how many times I have had to say this, but we played about 30 minutes of solid hockey and stayed with them the whole game," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. "Our physicality was non-existent. Their top line never got hit once."

Jeremy Gates and Banfield each scored in the final four minutes of the first period to put Pensacola ahead 2-0 going into the first intermission.

Banfield recorded his second goal of the night three minutes into the third period to make the score 3-0.

The IceGators cut the deficit to a goal thanks to back-to-back goals from Zac Frischmon, including a coast-to-coast short-handed goal to make the score 3-2 with 6:26 left in regulations.

Banfield's hat trick came with one second left on the clock when he scored on an empty net.

Omicioli says he team will need to play much better to have a chance to break its losing streak to the IceFlyers.

"Hopefully we can play a full game with a physical presence and give ourselves and opportunity to win," Omicioli said. "If we don't, expect the same results."
