Peoria Rivermen News Release
Four goals from four different players paved the way for the Peoria Rivermen 4-1 win over the Chicago Wolves on Saturday night at Allstate Arena. The win snapped Chicago's four-game winning streak while the Rivermen won for the fourth time in their last five games.
Peoria improved to 24-20-2-1 for 51 points and moved the Rivermen past San Antonio and into seventh place in the Western Conference.
Derek Nesbitt scored for the third straight game while Jonathan Cheechoo and Adam Cracknell each scored for the second night in a row. Ben Bishop made 29 saves to secure his league-leading 20th win of the season.
The only goal of the first period was scored by Cracknell at 5:37 for his 12th of the season. After Anthony Peluso fed Cracknell below the goal line, Cracknell walked out of the corner and jammed his own rebound past Matt Climie.
The Wolves lone goal evened the score for only 46 seconds. Jordan Schroeder beat Bishop in the seconds following a failed power-play attempt at 9:12. Nesbitt came back to give the Rivermen the lead for good at 9:58. Following a turnover, Brett Sterling and T.J. Hensick combined to feed Nesbitt at the side of the goal who fired home his 17th of the season.
In the third, Sterling scored against his former team to increase the Rivermen lead to 3-1. At 5:44, Sterling broke in behind the Wolves' defensemen and snapped home his 18th of the year. Cheechoo scored on an empty net with 1:57 remaining to put the game out of reach.
The Rivermen return home to face the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday at 7 p.m. For tickets and more information call the Rivermen at 309-676-1040 or visit www.rivermen.net.
