
Griffins Fly by Bulldogs 5-2

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Grand Rapids Griffins flew to a 5-2 victory against the Hamilton Bulldogs in the second of back-to-back away games at Van Andel Arena. Gustav Nyquist notched two goals while Fabian Brunnstrom, Brendan Smith and Tomas Tatar each added two points.
The Griffins opened the scoring at 8:27 of the second stanza on a one-timed shot by Francis Pare that beat Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Nathan Lawson on the blocker side. Just 22 seconds later, Dany Masse snapped a shot past Grand Rapids Griffins starting goaltender Jordan Pearce, off the near post and into the back of the net.
Grand Rapids took the lead at 17:04 of the middle frame on a hard power play slap shot by Nyquist. The 'Dogs were again quick to respond, tying the game only 31 seconds later on a tally by Andreas Engqvist who batted a backhand through the legs of Pearce.
The Griffins made it 3-2 at 4:53 of the third period when Brunnstrom slapped the puck into the top corner of the net. Grand Rapids doubled their lead at 9:41 of the third frame on Nyquist's second of the game. The Griffins added another marker 33 seconds later when Trevor Parkes made a perfect pass to Mitch Callahan for a 5-2 final score.
The Bulldogs face the San Antonio Rampage for the second of two school day games on Tuesday, February 7th, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Copps Coliseum.
