
Charlotte Holds off Texas 4-3

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (20-22-1-2, 43 points) were defeated by the Charlotte Checkers (28-16-2-2, 60 points) 4-3 in front of 5,889 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Center Travis Morin scored late in the third period, pulling Texas within one goal, but the Checkers held off a late rush by the Stars to seal the win. Centers Angelo Esposito and Ryan Garbutt also scored in the Stars defeat. Texas goalie Andrew Raycroft (6-6-1) stopped 21 of 25 shots as the Stars fell to10-8-1-1 at home. Charlotte right wing Jerome Samson put up a goal and added an assist on the night. Forwards Zac Dalpe, Jared Staal and defenseman Michal Jordan each registered a goal for the Checkers. Charlotte goalie John Muse (7-1-0) stopped 33 of 36 shots in the win. The Stars host Milwaukee on Tuesday, February 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the Cedar Park Center.
The Checkers got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead with a goal from center Zac Dalpe. Wingers Chris Terry and Nicholas Blanchard helped on Dalpe's eleventh goal of the year at 12:31 of the first period. The Stars tied the game 1-1 as center Angelo Esposito ripped a shot past Muse with 4:30 remaining in the frame. Forwards Colton Sceviour and Scott Glennie each added an assist on Esposito's third goal of the season.
Charlotte pushed out to a 2-1 lead at 14:30 of the second period. Defenseman Michal Jordan jabbed the puck past Raycroft, notching his fourth goal of the year. Forwards Jerome Samson and Evgenii Dadonov set up the goal.
The Checkers continued the scoring in the third period. Right wing Jerome Samson netted an early goal just 1:25 into the frame. Defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti put up an assist on Samson's 16th goal of the year and the 3-1 tally. Texas cut into Charlotte's lead, 3-2 at 12:31 with a goal from center Ryan Garbutt. Left wing Mike Hedden and defenseman Jordie Benn each registered an assist on Garbutt's 13th goal of the season. Charlotte responded quickly at 13:07, nabbing a 4-2 lead. Right wing Jared Staal scored with assists coming from defenseman Mathieu Roy and left wing Justin Soryal. The Stars struck again with 3:03 remaining in the final frame as center Travis Morin found the back of the net. Morin went unassisted on the shorthanded goal, ending the night 4-3.
Texas will also host Milwaukee on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Both nights are 3-2-1 Nights, with $3.00 domestic drafts, $2.00 sodas and $1.00 dogs. Tuesday and Wednesday are also H-E-B Nights, if fans bring a non-perishable H-E-B food product to the Cedar Park Center box office - they will receive $5.00 off the ticket price. The Stars start a three-game road trip on Friday, February 10th against the Rochester Americans at 6:35 p.m. Texas will then face the Hamilton Bulldogs on Sunday, February 12th at 3:00 p.m. and conclude with a visit to the Lake Erie Monsters on Wednesday, February 15th at 9:45 a.m.
