Peoria Rivermen News Release

Knoxville, TN - The Peoria Rivermen took a 3-0 lead with 13:39 left in regulation before surviving a late Knoxville rally to beat the Ice Bears 4-3 Thursday night. The win, Peoria's fourth in a row, sets up a pair of games Friday and Saturday at Mississippi with first place on the line.

The Rivermen started the scoring at the 9:04 mark of period number one when Chris Wilson walked into the Knoxville zone and blasted a slapshot past Ice Bears goaltender Bryan Hince for the 1-0 lead. Peoria added to their lead early in the second period when 41 seconds in Wilson took a feed from Garrett Vermeersch and skated into the goal mouth before crossing in front of Hince and putting a back hand past him for the 2-0 lead.

At the 6:21 mark of the third period the Rivermen widened their lead on the powerplay when Timmy Hall one-timed a feed from Wilson past Hince for the 3-0 lead.

Knoxville got on the board with a powerplay goal of their own at 8:29 of the third when Corey Hale put the puck past Rivermen goalie Kyle Rank for a 3-1 score. The Ice Bears got within one when Bo Driscoll scored at the 10:00 mark to make it 3-2.

Peoria got back to a two-goal lead when Wilson scored an unassisted tally at the 16:11 mark of the third to make it 4-2. Knoxville made it a one goal game with the extra skater on the ice and 15 seconds left in regulation when Zack LaRue put a puck off the back glass past Rank for the 4-3 final score.

Rank stopped 17 of 20 shots in net for the Rivermen, winning his fourth straight decision. Rank is 7-0-1 overall since a November 3 loss at Mississippi.
