Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PEORIA, Ill. (Oct. 24, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers couldn't complete the weekend sweep as they were shutout by the Peoria Rivermen and goalie Chris Rawlings in Rawlings' SPHL debut.
Just as on Friday night, the Rivermen scored first in tonight's game when Peoria's Dan Bremner fired a shot that beat Ice Flyers goalie Matt Zenzola at the 7:25 mark of the first period. Peoria took a 2-0 lead with just 20 seconds remaining in the first when Tim Hall scored his second goal in as many nights.
After a scoreless second period, Peoria's Walker Wintoneak tallied an unassisted goal 2:36 into the third to push the lead to 3-0. That score stood until, with Zenzola pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Mike Gurtler made it 4-0 with an empty net goal.
Zenzola stopped 25 of the 28 Peoria shots he faced and now has a 1-1-0 record on the young season.
The Ice Flyers are back in action next weekend with only one game. The 2015-16 Pensacola Ice Flyers Home Opener will be Friday, Oct. 30 as the Louisiana IceGators venture into the Hangar with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Central. Help us White out the Hangar by wearing white to the game!
