Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PEORIA, Ill. (Oct. 21, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers kicked off their 2015-16 season one the road tonight with a 3-1 win over the Peoria Rivermen.

The Rivermen got on the board first when Tim Hall scored 14:36 into the game. Peoria goalie Kyle Rank managed to keep the Ice Flyers off the scoreboard through the first 33:20 of the game until Jeremy Gates, assisted by Filip Bjork and Patrick Divjak, found the back of the net with 6:40 remaining in the middle frame.

With the Ice Flyers on their fourth power play of the game, winger Joey Holka fired a shot that made its way home for what proved to be the game winning goal. Assisting on the goal that came 10:24 into the third were Corey Banfield and Mike Krieg. With the Ice Flyers shorthanded with less than a minute left in the game, the Ice Flyers didn't have to worry about icing the puck when he fired the puck down the ice with Rank pulled by Peoria coach Jean-Guy Trudel in favor of the extra attacker. Gates shot the puck down the rink for an unassisted, shorthanded, empty net goal that game with just three seconds remaining in the game.

Matt Zenzola stopped all but one of Peoria's 36 shots on goal to pick up his first win in his first start of the season.

The Rivermen and Ice Flyers will be back in action again tomorrow night with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. inside Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center. Fans in Pensacola can watch the games at both New York Nick's downtown and the 9 Mile Rd. Beef 'O'Brady's location.
