Rivermen Announce "Bruce Saurs Hockey Weekend in Peoria"

The Peoria Rivermen will pay tribute to legendary owner Bruce Saurs on opening weekend this year with "Bruce Saurs Hockey Weekend in Peoria," presented by Heritage Bank, on Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 at Carver Arena. Both nights will feature a 7:05 p.m. puck drop against Huntsville, as well as a big-time giveaway, specialty jerseys and a fantastic group ticket special.
In addition, the Rivermen will honor Saurs throughout this season and beyond with a memorial logo displaying his likeness. The logo will be placed at center ice in Carver Arena, on both sides of the faceoff circle, as well as on a banner dedicated on the arena wall. Plus, the logo will be shown on Rivermen.net and other material.
"We've done a lot of work this summer to make sure Bruce Saurs will never be forgotten," Rivermen co-owner Bart Rogers said. "His memory will always continue on at Caver Arena and opening weekend will be an emotional one for sure."
"Whether you're a diehard fan or just enjoy the sport, you won't want to miss this. It's all to show our appreciation to Mr. Saurs and his family for their many years of dedication and commitment to hockey in central Illinois."
With the support of Heritage Bank, the Rivermen will offer free magnetic schedules to the first 1,500 fans through the doors both Friday and Saturday. Plus, ticket prices will be knocked back to just $8 to commemorate "88" years of life for the Peoria sports icon, who passed away July 10.
Furthermore, the Rivermen will honor Saurs by wearing special edition jerseys each night (design attached). The custom sweaters, which bare the Peoria Journal Star's image of Saurs drinking from the IHL's Turner Cup during the 1990-91 season, will be auctioned off live at Carver Arena following the Saturday night contest. $2 hot dogs and $2 Bud Light drafts will also be available each night courtesy of the Peoria Civic Center, Centerplate Catering and Bud Light.
Group ticket specials for "Bruce Saurs Hockey Weekend in Peoria" are on sale now and are discounted when calling the Rivermen office (309-676-1040 ) as part of the "Fill the House" promotion. As if that wasn't enough, any fan who purchases 10 or more tickets to Opening Night will receive the same amount of tickets to Saturday's game for free! Buy 10 tickets for Friday night, get 10 free for Saturday, etc.
Finally, all fans are invited to a meet-and-greet with the entire 2014-15 Rivermen team in the Civic Center's "Lexus Club" following the post-game auction.
Single game tickets for Peoria's 33rd season of professional hockey are set to go on sale Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Peoria Civic Center box office at 10:30 a.m. However, season ticket packages and group ticket options for the 2014-15 campaign are on sale now through the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W.
