
Rivermen Trade Stanfield for Trask; Build Roster

Peoria Rivermen head coach Jean-Guy Trudel has announced an assortment of player moves in preparation for the 2014-15 Southern Professional Hockey League season. Most notable, winger Parker Stanfield has been traded to the Louisiana IceGators in exchange for scoring threat Jake Trask. In addition, the Rivermen have signed forward Dan Bremner as well as defensemen Paul Arnott and Riley Austin, while Jeff Burke has been released.
"We're getting very excited for the season and I think the team is coming together well," Trudel said. "I'm thrilled to have a guy like Trask on our side because he is virtually a point-per-game player and our fans will love him. Plus, Bremner's skill and physicality will be a tremendous help."
"Aside from that, I'm really pumped to have Paul and Riley on defense. We're looking good."
Trask, 23, spent the majority of last season in Louisiana and recorded 11 goals with 14 assists over 29 games. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native also played 18 contests with ECHL Elmira and notched two goals with four assists.
The 6'0, 175-pound center began his professional career during the 2012-13 season when he spent 15 games with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League. Prior to that, Trask played parts of five seasons in the Western Hockey League between the Kamloops Blazers and Saskatoon Blades. He notched 76 goals with 85 assists over 266 career regular-season games. Trask is a third-round draft pick (#61 overall) of Kamloops in the 2006 WHL Bantam Draft.
Stanfield, 24, was runner-up on the Rivermen scoring chart last season with 39 points (13g, 26a) in just 39 games. He also earned a pair of call-ups to ECHL South Carolina and Florida, where he notched two goals and two assists in 10 games combined. He was re-signed by Peoria on Aug. 12.
A native of Orange County, California, Stanfield played 33 games for ECHL Bakersfield in 2012-13, where he recorded six goals and seven assists after an eight-game endeavor with Poprad HK SKP (in Slovakia's top professional league).
Bremner, 27, played all but two games for the Columbus Cottonmouths last season and registered 21 points (8g, 13a) with 129 penalty minutes. He also appeared in seven post-season contests as the Cottonmouths fell in the President's Cup finals to Pensacola.
Entering his fourth season in the SPHL, Bremner spent both 2011-12 and 2012-13 with the Knoxville Ice Bears, where he notched 40 points (13g, 24a) and 175 penalty minutes in 97 games. The Sarnia, Ontario native added an additional five points (3g, 2a) in nine playoff contests.
Prior to turning pro, Bremner played three seasons at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, including one year with Rivermen defenseman Charlie Carkin in 2009-10. Bremner concluded his college career during the 2010-11 campaign when he played 27 games at SUNY-Oswego.
Arnott, 27, spent the majority of last season with the Bloomington Thunder (SPHL) and produced one goal with four assists in 39 games. One of those assists came in 11 contests against the Rivermen. He was also promoted to ECHL Greenville for five games towards the middle of the year.
A native of Holly, Michigan, Arnott spent additional time in the ECHL during the 2012-13 campaign when he played 14 games for Elmira. The 6'2, 220-pound defenseman also has 81 contests in the Federal Hockey League to his credit between Danbury Whalers and Williamsport Outlaws.
Austin, 23, will look to begin his professional career this season after spending each of the last four years at St. Lawrence University (NCAA Div. I) in Canton, New York. Over 112 career games, the 6'2, 205-pound defenseman tallied 19 points (6g, 13a) with 108 penalty minutes. He also played three seasons for the Lindsay Muskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he won Defenseman of the Year honors in 2009-10.
Austin is a native of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, the same hometown as former Rivermen forward Corey Tamblyn.
Burke, 24, played each of the last four seasons at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he recorded 37 points (12g, 25a) and 160 penalty minutes in 99 career games. The 6'4, 215-pound defenseman was signed to a tryout form on June 5.
Single game tickets for Peoria's 33rd season of professional hockey are set to go on sale Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Peoria Civic Center box office at 10:30 a.m. However, season ticket packages and group ticket options for the 2014-15 campaign are on sale now through the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W.
