WEEK IN REVIEW (4 games 1-3-0)

Thursday, November 10 Corpus Christi 7 RiverKings 4 @ DCC

The Rayz broke open a 1-1 game with four goals in the final 5:30 of the first period boosting them to a 7-4 victory. Rayz veteran Bernie John had a goal and 3 assists and Josh Miskovich had a pair of goals to help the Rayz end a 2-game losing skid. The Rayz struck first on Miskovich's first of the night, an unassisted goal that came after a turnover in the Memphis end, at 9:36 of the first. Dorian Anneck's fourth of the season tied it at 14:23 on the power-play, but what began just 13 seconds later would quickly snowball into a 5-1 first intermission lead for the Rayz. Derrick McIver scored with 5:22 left on the clock and by the time it read :29, John, Randy Murphy and Shawn Legault had scored to make it 5-1. Memphis outscored Corpus 3-2 in the final two periods on two goals from Ryan Campbell and another from Travis Banga, but it just wasn't enough to overcome the Rayz. Miguel Beaudry took the loss in the nets while the Rayz' Brent Zelenewich was the winning goalie with 36 saves on 40 shots. The RiverKings out-shot the Rayz 40-31.

Friday, November 11 RiverKings 3 Bossier-Shreveport 1 @ DCC

Don Parsons scored the game winner and Guy St. Vincent made 24 saves in the win. Parsons' power play goal, his 7th of the season, at 16:26 of the third period was a redirection of a Derek Landmesser shot and broke a 1-1 stalemate. Landmesser then followed three minutes later with an empty net goal from his own blue line to finish the deal. Jeremy Wray, who left the game in the second period due to injury, opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period at 16:51. The unassisted goal was his second of the season. Scott Sheppard scored his team-high eighth goal of the season on the power play in the second period to tie the game at one. Thanks to St Vincent and some timely Memphis defense, it would be the only goal scoring the Mudbugs would get. St. Vincent made key stops all game long and held the second highest scoring team in the league well below their 4.25 goals per game average. Andrew Martin was almost equally solid, saving 22 of 24 shots in the loss for Bossier-Shreveport. The RiverKings went one for eight with the power play while Bossier-Shreveport went one for six. Both teams had 25 shots, with Memphis holding the important third period advantage 12-7.

Sunday, November 13 Wichita 5 RiverKings 1 @ Wichita

The Thunder scored four goals in the third period to break a 1-1 tie at the Kansas Coliseum Sunday. Tyler Liebel scored a pair of goals and Thunder netminder Sebastien Laplante made 34 saves as the Thunder improved to a league-best 8-2-0. The RiverKings struck first as rookie Darrell Stoddard took advantage of a strange carom that caught Thunder goalie Sebastien Laplante out of position. The power play goal was Stoddard's second of the season. Travis Banga and Ryan Watson were credited with assists as the first period ended with a 1-0 RiverKings advantage. Wichita tied it in the second on Liebel's first of the game as he snuck behind the RiverKings defense, took a long pass from his zone and went in all alone to beat Guy St Vincent with the backhand. Despite getting out-shot 19-10 in the third, the Thunder out-scored the RiverKings 4-0. The game winner was a shorthanded goal by Tab Lardner 1:13. The Thunder would score an empty net goal later in the period on the penalty kill to give them two shorties in the game and five in the season, all at home. Each team scored once on the power play with Memphis going 1 for 12 and Wichita going 1 for 8. Guy St Vincent made 30 saves to fall to 2-2-0. Laplante made 35 saves and moved his record to 7-1-0. The win was the Thunder's franchise record 11th straight home victory dating back to last season.

Tuesday, November 15 Bossier-Shreveport 6 RiverKings 3 @ DCC

The Mudbugs rallied from a 3-1 deficit to register a 6-3 win in the Face-Off Field Trip game at the DeSoto Civic Center on Tuesday. Most of the crowd of 5,530 was made up of area third through sixth graders who witnessed the earliest start time, 10 a.m., for a RiverKings game in the team's 14 year history. Scott Sheppard and Dan Wildfong each scored two goals as the Mudbugs snapped a four-game losing streak. The game was a see-saw of scoring runs: three unanswered goals by Memphis and five unanswered by Bossier-Shreveport. The RiverKings scored three straight after Sheppard put the ‘Bugs on the board with a power play goal at 5:32. Dorian Anneck started the home team's three goal run with a minute-31 left in the first as he put in a rebound on the power play for his fifth goal of the season. The period ended 1-1. Memphis scored two more on the power play in the first 5:15 of the second period. Travis Banga's tip-in of a Stephen Margeson shot from the point at 1:39 and Ryan Watson's slap shot at 5:15 gave the RiverKings a 3-1 lead. The two-goal advantage was short-lived, though, as Dan Wildfong scored just 11 seconds later to make it 3-2 followed by Sheppard's second of the game to complete the comeback at 7:23. Blair Manning fed Wildfong on a two on one at 17:03 of the second to put Bossier-Shreveport ahead going into the third period. In the third, Ryan Manitowich's short-handed goal at 14:24 and Chad Spurr's empty net goal at 19:25 put the game out of reach at 6-3. The teams combined for 26 power play chances with the RiverKings going three for 14 and the Mudbugs going two for 12. Memphis had the shots advantage in the second and third periods 18-13, but was outscored in those periods 5-2. David Cacciola won in his Bossier-Shreveport debut stopping 24 of 27 shots. Guy St. Vincent took the loss with 28 saves on 33 shots. The loss drops the RiverKings to 3-6-0 on the season.

WRAY ON SEASON-ENDING IR

The RiverKings have placed third year forward Jeremy Wray on season-ending IR. Wray was injured in last Friday's 3-1 victory over Bossier-Shreveport. In seven games this season, Wray had two goals and 14 PIM. Memphis will need to make a roster move to fill Wray's roster spot.
