Cotton Kings and Oilers Swap D-Men

LUBBOCK, TX: November 16, 2005 - The Lubbock Cotton Kings and the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League agreed to a trade today that will send defenseman Darren Shakotko to Tulsa in exchange for defenseman Ryan Moren. The Cotton Kings have also activated forward Paul Fioroni from the injured reserve list and placed forward Josh Anderson on the 14-Day IR.

Moren comes to the Cotton Kings after appearing in nine games this season in his first season with the Tulsa Oilers. The fourth year pro from Lakeville, Minnesota has been held scoreless and has 15 penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating through nine games. Prior to this season, the 6'2" 190-pound defenseman spent three seasons in Anchorage, Alaska with the Alaska Aces of the West Coast Hockey League (02/03) and the ECHL (03/04 - 04/05). Last season, he tallied 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 65 games with the Aces and had the opportunity to have New Jersey Devils forward Scott Gomez as a teammate while the NHL lockout was going on. In three seasons, Moren combined for 15 goals and 42 assists for 57 points in 187 games. Moren, 25, turned pro in 02/03 after spending his college career at NCAA Div. III Milwaukee School of Engineering from 98/99 - 01/02. The two-time Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association (MCHA) Player of the Year and Academic All-American collected 31 goals and 51 assists for 82 points over his college tenure, which are all MCHA career highs.

Shakotko leaves Lubbock after playing 71 games with the Kings dating back to last season. He registered 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points in 60 games last season and has been limited to a goal and two assists for three points in 11 games this season. A native of Banff, Alberta, Shakotko was second in scoring by defensemen last season for the Kings.

Fioroni comes back to the Kings line-up after missing the past six games with an injury. The Kings enforcer has two assists in and 17 penalty minutes five games this season. Anderson heads to the injured reserve list after missing the past three games with an injury. Anderson has a goal and an assist for two points through eight games this season. Moren will be in on the roster Thursday morning for the Cotton Kings contest in Odessa.

The Cotton Kings season is underway and their next home game is Friday at 7:05 pm, as they welcome the Youngstown Steelhounds at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum.
