YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Laredo Bucks got two goals from forward Nick Warriner and terrific netminding by Mike Dilorenzo to beat the Youngstown SteelHounds 3-1 in front of 2,228 fans at the Youngstown Convocation Center on Wednesday night. With the win, the Bucks seventh victory in the past nine games, Laredo moves into first place in the Southeast division with 14 points and a 7-5-0 record. The Bucks are in the midst of a three game road trip. Laredo returns home Sunday against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. Neither team was able to score in the first period. The Bucks and SteelHounds each had 11 shots on goal.

The teams remained scoreless thru much of the second period. Bucks goalie Mike Dilorenzo turned in three separate sparkling saves on the leading scorer in the CHL Jeff Christian at various points in the period. Laredo finally cracked thru late in the frame. Forward Adam Stefishen fired a shot that was stopped, but Warriner was there to jam in the rebound at 18:03 for the first goal of the game. It was the fourth of the year for Warriner.

The SteelHounds tied the game in the third as defenseman Kris Mallette went high glove side with a wrist shot from the slot at 8:42. The Bucks had the answer as forward James Hiebert carried out from behind the net and found Steve Simoes in the left circle who snapped home a bullet wrist shot high stick side for the go ahead goal at 12:25. It was the second of the season for Simoes. Just 1:21 later it was Warriner connecting for his second of the game on a nice feed from Stefishen to give the Bucks a 3-1 lead. FINAL SCORE Laredo 3, Youngstown 1.

Dilorenzo was terrific stopping 26 of 27 shots and running his record to 3-0-0. David St. Germain played well in the loss, allowing three goals on 29 shots, but dropped to 2-4-1. The Bucks were 0-6 on the power play, while Youngstown was 0-4. It was the second straight game Laredo has shutout the opponent on the penalty kill and they have stopped 21 of the last 22. The Bucks outshot the SteelHounds 29-27.
