Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Southaven, Miss-After a ten-day break from SPHL action, the Mississippi RiverKings begin a three day string of games tonight in Knoxville against the Ice Bears. The 'Kings will return home Saturday for a rematch with the Ice Bears and will take on Columbus in a Sunday matinee showdown.

Weekend Schedule:

@ Knoxville 6:35 p.m.

vs. Knoxville 7:05 p.m.

vs. Columbus 3:05 p.m.

A Long, Long Time Ago: The 'Kings are coming off a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Huntsville Havoc in front of 8,400 for the Face Off Field Trip. Penalties plagued the team as Huntsville converted on two 5 on 3 man advantages eliminating the chance for a comeback.

Who's the New Guy' Part I: When goaltender Alan Reynolds left the team for personal reasons, Head Coach Derek Landmesser acquired proven goaltender David Wilson from the Augusta Riverhawks for cash considerations creating a dominating 1-2 goaltending punch with Scott Darling. Wilson spent time this season in the ECHL with the Gwinnet Gladiators before the trade. With the Riverhawks, Wilson posted a 4-1 record with a 3.18 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.

Who's the New Guy' Part II: In a search for more offense from the point, Coach Landmesser dealt pointman Ryan Ramage to the Pensacola Ice Flyers for Chris Pontes. The 6'2 blueliner split time last season between Knoxville and Laredo (CHL) before making the move to Pensacola prior to this season. In 9 games with the Ice Flyers this season, Pontes posted 3 assists and was -2.

Who's the New Guy' Part III: Forward Deven Stillar joins the 'Kings for their three game weekend on a three-game tryout contract. The rookie from Sudbury, ONT played his junior hockey with the Flin Flon Bombers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. In his final season of juniors, he registered 65 points (28G, 37A) in 52 games played. He played one game with the Laredo Bucks this season before coming to the Mid-South.

Hostile Territory: Knoxville has yet to lose at home this season. In six games at the James White Civic Coliseum, the Ice Bears have outscored opponents 31-17. Over their last 5 games, Knoxville's dynamic duo of Kevin Swider and Emery Olauson has combined for 24 points (9G, 15A). Goaltender Bryan Hince is 4-1 over the same stretch, with a 2.79 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.

Home Sweet Home: The RiverKings have enjoyed all of their success at home, posting a 2-2 record, while Knoxville is only 1-2 and Columbus enters the weekend 1-0-2 away from home. Forwards Mark Magnowski and Robert Sich each have 6 points (3G, 3A) at the Desoto Civic Center this season and Scott Darling is 2-1 with a 3.24 goals against average and a .895 save percentage.

Pre-emptive Strike: When the RiverKings score first, they are 2-1 on the season as opposed to 0-3 when having to come from behind.

Great tickets are still available for the RiverKings' 20th Anniversary Season sponsored by Belhaven University. December 3rd is Autism Awareness Night.
