IceGators win over Surge

In a case of turnabout being fairplay, the Louisiana IceGators scored five powerplay goals en route to a 6-4 win over the Mississippi Surge Friday night in Louisiana. Two nights earlier, the Surge scored three power play goals in a 5-1 win over Louisiana.

Robert Short had a hat trick for the IceGators, who were playing just their third home game of the season, and posted their first home ice win. Louisiana was 5-for-7 on the power play, and the six goals are the most against the Surge this season.

The Surge broke on top in a briskly played first period as Nick Guran scored his first professional goal. Short recorded his hat trick for with all three of his goals coming with a man advantage. Louisiana also got power play goals from Josh Boyd and Brayden Metz. Shawn McNeil had the only even strength goal for Louisiana.

Adam Stuart had a goal and two assists for the Surge, giving him five points over the past two games. Rob Campbell and Adam Krug also scored for the Surge. Krug's goal with 36 seconds left in the game, stretches his point streak to eight games.

The Surge get right back in action Saturday at home against the Augusta RiverHawks at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. It will be the Surge's final home game for three weeks, as the next home game after Saturday won't be until December 17. Fans can go ice skating after Saturday's game.
