Mississippi RiverKings News Release

Before tonight's game against the Tulsa Oilers, the Mississippi RiverKings this afternoon traded defenseman Martin Kubaliak to the Oilers for future considerations.

Kubaliak, 22, did not register a point in his three games with the RiverKings. The 6-3, 225-pound Slovak spent last season with the SPHL's Huntsville Havoc, where he amassed 22 points and 143 penalty minutes in 51 games.

Even though the Oilers acquired Kubaliak today, he will not play for them tonight.

Meanwhile, the RiverKings have signed defenseman Bernie Chmiel to take Kubaliak's roster spot. The 6-0, 205-pound native of Pittsburgh spent last season with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, where he registered six points and 38 penalty minutes in 59 games. Before turning pro, the 25-year-old Chmiel played for four seasons at NCAA Division I Sacred Heart University. Over the course of 127 collegiate games, he scored 21 goals and assisted on 56 others while piling up 239 penalty minutes.

RiverKings Head Coach Kevin McClelland says Chmiel will play in tonight's game, which begins at 7:05 at the DeSoto Civic Center.
