
Mudbugs Can't Hold On

Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League are still winless after their fifth game of the season, a 5-4 setback to Youngstown Tuesday night at the CenturyTel Center . For the fourth consecutive game, the Mudbugs held a lead going into the third period only to lose the game by a goal.
In didn't take long for the action to get going in this one as the Mudbugs scored only 1:29 in. Justin Aikins and Brett Smith set up Dale Lupul for his first goal of the season, but only 31 seconds later, the Steelhounds got even on a marker from Chris Shaffer. The teams would again trade goals later in the period, with Tyrel Lucas scoring on the power play from Daniel Pegoraro and Joe Ori at 5:31 and Eric Przepiorka answering for Youngstown with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 16:10. The game was tied at two after 20 minutes.
In the second, Lucas struck again with another power play goal, this time from Elias Godoy and Ryan Fairbarn at 3:04 of the second. The goal was Lucas' third in the past two games (his first pro goal came on Saturday at Texas ). Later in the period, Joe Ori redirected a Lupul pass into the top corner to give the Mudbugs their first two-goal lead of the season, 4-2. Youngstown wasn't finished in the second though, as Kevin Jarman stole a pass in the neutral zone and beat John DeCaro on a breakaway to bring the Hounds back within one.
The Mudbugs entered into the third period with a 4-3 lead, the fourth straight game they carried a one-goal advantage into the final frame. The teams traded power play chances early in the period before Youngstown got a 5-on-3 opportunity for over a minute with both Jake Ortmeyer and Karlis Zirnis in the box. The 'Bugs were about to kill off the two-man disadvantage when Quade Lightbody was called for slashing, extending the 5-on-3. A Jeff Alcombrack slapshot with only 2:24 left in regulation proved to be the difference in the contest, as the Steelhounds went on to win 5-4.
Both teams had the power play clicking in this one, with Youngstown converting 3 of 10 chances; two of the goals coming on 5-on-3s. The Mudbugs power play came out of its early-season slumber on Tuesday night as well, as the unit scored 3 goals on 8 chances. Bossier-Shreveport was only 1-for-26 on the man advantage in their first four games.
Youngstown stays undefeated at 5-0 with the win, while the Mudbugs are still searching for that elusive first victory at 0-4-1. Up next for Bossier-Shreveport is a home-and-home set with Mississippi this weekend. The Mudbugs and RiverKings face off Friday night at 7:05 at the CenturyTel Center before heading to Mississippi for the rematch on Saturday.
