RiverKings to help take a bite out of crime

November 16, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- Beginning this weekend, the Memphis RiverKings are teaming up with DeSoto County Crime Stoppers to put fugitives and criminals in the real penalty box. DeSoto County's Most Wanted is a new feature that will be shown twice on the DeSoto Civic Center's Jumbotron scoreboard during RiverKings games the rest of the season. The RiverKings host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05 this Friday and Saturday nights.

"We (the RiverKings) are excited to be working with DeSoto County Crime Stoppers," RiverKings team captain Derek Landmesser said. "We think trying to make DeSoto County a safer and better place is a worthwhile cause."

A few weeks ago, Landmesser and Horn Lake Mayor Nat Baker contacted Captain David Holland from DeSoto Crime Stoppers about a possible working partnership.

"DeSoto County Crime Stoppers represents DeSoto County and each of the five municipalities in the county," Holland said. "Our main goal with our programs is to capture fugitives with the help of the public. This program during RiverKings games will help us do just that to a large number of people."

The DeSoto County's Most Wanted during RiverKings games will feature photos and other descriptive information about a criminal or fugitive with contact information.

DeSoto County Crime Stoppers offers up a $1000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a wanted criminal or fugitive. People who provide information to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous. That information is then shared with the local authorities.

The number for persons to call if they have a tip for DeSoto County Crime Stoppers is 662-429-TIPS. There is also a website at www.desotocrimestoppers.com.

This weekend's match up at the DCC pits two teams that are on a roll. The top-ranked RiverKings have won five straight and own the best record in the CHL at 7-1-2. The defending CHL champion Bucks have also won five in a row and are 7-3-0 through their first 10 games.
