Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- If you're looking for a way to help stop the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of women - heart disease and stroke - it's easy: just get decked out in your most festive red, grab your girlfriends and join the Mississippi RiverKings to celebrate American Heart Association Night and the Go Red For Women campaign at the RiverKings vs. Laredo Bucks game on January 24 at 7:05 p.m. at the Desoto Civic Center.
"Cardiovascular disease caused about a death a minute among females - about 460,000 female lives in 2004," said Jennifer Jaudon, Director of Communications of the American Heart Association. "That's more female lives than were claimed by the next four leading causes of death combined including all forms of cancer."
The RiverKings "Ladies Night," sponsored by BankPlus and Sam's Town Hotel and Casino-Tunica, will feature an action-packed evening of excitement on and off the ice including free gift bags brimming with local retail items to the first 500 women in attendance, plus numerous door prizes and reduced ticket packages that include $5 off each ticket plus a donation to the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement of up to $6.
"By purchasing a ticket to this Go Red For Women event, women can become part of the fight against heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women in America," Jaudon said. "Their involvement and donations to the movement can help save the lives of mothers, sisters, aunts, daughters, grandmothers, best friends, and other women just like them."
In addition to special Gold and Red Level ticket packages, the RiverKings will honor two female heart survivors, and women will also learn how to keep the silent epidemic at bay thanks to life-saving information.
Go Red For Women recognizes the vitality and energy of women while raising awareness and funds for local research for heart disease and stroke. Sponsored nationally by Macy's and Merck, women are encouraged to love their hearts and join the movement at www.goredforwomen.org.
Sign-up is free, and women will receive special Go Red For Women benefits: a red dress pin to wear proudly to show that they're part of the movement; a monthly e-newsletter filled with heart-healthy tips, events and programs, news, recipes, promotions and more; a free subscription to Heart Insight magazine, the American Heart Association's quarterly publication that gives them authoritative, practical advice on cardiovascular health.
Sign-up also includes access to exclusive merchandise on Shop Go Red (www.shopheart.org) with proceeds benefiting Go Red For Women, and access to the American Heart Association's message boards, where women can connect and share the ways they Go Red, such as favorite motivational tips and recipes.
Additional media support of the Go Red For Women campaign is provided by FOX 13 WHBQ-TV, Q107.5 FM, WMC-FM 100, Memphis Flyer, Memphis Magazine, Memphis Parent, MBQ, The Commercial Appeal, At Home Tennessee and Memphis Woman Online.
