Bucks Smith Called Up To AHL

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that rookie forward Darryl Smith has been called up to the AHL by the Houston Aeros. Smith signed a professional tryout agreement with the Aeros Tuesday morning, and is expected to be in the line-up tonight when Houston hosts Lake Erie at 7:05pm.
"This is a great opportunity for Darryl, he's worked very hard for us all year long", said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "Darryl has the skills to play at the next level".
Smith attended the Aeros training camp prior to this season.
The 5'11, 190 pound Smith currently leads all CHL rookies in scoring with 38 points (19-19=38), and has scored a goal in 13 of the Bucks 29 games this season.
Smith leads the Bucks in several offensive categories this season, including goals (19), short-handed goals (2), and game-winning goals (5). Smith is tied for the team lead in power-play goals with Alex Goupil (6).
"Darryl has been an important part of our team", Ruskowski said. "He wins face off's, he scores goals, he's on special teams, and he plays solid defense".
On December 7th Smith was voted the CHL player of the week, as he helped lead the Bucks to a 3-0 week with wins over Rio Grande Valley, Arizona, and Texas.
Smith started his professional career off with a bang, as he scored a hat trick in his first game against Rocky Mountain on Opening Night at the LEC on October 17th.
Smith is the first Bucks player to be called up to the AHL during the season since 2006-07, when Chris Korchinski was called up by San Antonio.
The Bucks will return home to host their 7th annual New Year's Eve Bash on December 31st when they host the Killer Bees. Game time is 7:30pm. The Bucks will hold a press conference at the Laredo Entertainment Center on Tuesday December 30th, to make a special announcement. The media and fans are invited to attend the event, which will begin at 1pm in the main entrance of the Arena.
Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski will be on hand, and will be available to the media for interviews

*Open Skating At LEC*
The Laredo Entertainment Center will host three days of open community skating during the holiday's. "Winter Wonderland" will be open to the public on Monday December 22 from 12pm-6pm, Monday December 29, and Tuesday December 30 from 1-7pm.
Everyone is welcome, and the cost is $5 an hour, which includes skate rental. The LEC will open some Concession areas during the skating.
