Bucks Smith Named All-Star Starter

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, announced Tuesday that rookie forward Darryl Smith has been voted to the starting line-up for the CHL All-Star team. The CHL will take on the host Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Event Center on January 14th.
Smith, who was called up earlier Tuesday to the AHL's Houston Aeros, currently leads all CHL rookies in scoring with 38 points (19-19=38), and has scored a goal in 13 of the Bucks 29 games this season.
Smith will be joined in the starting line up by forwards Joel Irving (ARZ), and Rich Hansen (RAP), defensemen Justin Kinnunen (TEX), and Sam Ftorek (AMA), and goaltender Andy Franck (OKC).
Smith leads the Bucks in several offensive categories this season, including goals (19), short-handed goals (2), and game-winning goals (5). Smith is tied for the team lead in power-play goals with Alex Goupil (6).
On December 7th Smith was voted the CHL player of the week, as he helped lead the Bucks to a 3-0 week with wins over Rio Grande Valley, Arizona, and Texas.
Smith started his professional career off with a bang, as he scored a hat trick in his first game against Rocky Mountain on Opening Night at the LEC on October 17th.
Voting for the All-Star starters was conducted by all CHL Coaches, Communications Departments and select members of the media.
The CHL All-Star reserves will be announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Bucks will return home to host their 7th annual New Year's Eve Bash on December 31st when they host the Killer Bees. Game time is 7:30pm. After the game the Bucks will hold the fireworks celebration inside the LEC for the first time ever! You can get four tickets for $40, by calling 718-BUCK (2825).
*Help Sell Out "Pink In The Rink Jan 9th*
The Bucks announced that they will donate $10,000 to Wings if the January 9th "Pink in the Rink" game at the LEC is sold out. If the Bucks sell out the game with 8,002 fans, the team will donate $10,000 to Wings.
WINGS (Women Involved in Nurturing, Giving, Sharing) is a non-profit organization that provides top-quality, comprehensive breast cancer treatment services to uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients. WINGS has served Central and South Texas for over nine years, and now, WINGS Laredo is the newest chapter to bring these life-saving services directly to the women and men of Laredo.
The Bucks will hold a "pink out" that night, as they will wear pink jersey's, and they will ask fans to wear pink to the game to support the cause. Before the game pink thunder stix will also be handed out to fans.
