Mississippi RiverKings News Release
(Southaven, MS) -- The Mississippi RiverKings used three power play goals enroute to a 4-1 victory over the Odessa Jackalopes in Central Hockey League action at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Friday, February 6th. The RiverKings moved into a tie for second place in the CHL Northeast Division, while winning their third straight game.
Mississippi took a 3-0 lead before the Jackalopes could score what turned out to be their only goal of the contest. Louis Dumont tucked a loose puck "top-shelf" past Odessa goalie Jeremy Symington on the power play at 3:56 of the first period for a 1-0 lead.
Defenseman Derek Landmesser received his 500th career professional assist on the goal, and Jeff Alcombrack earned his 150th career professional assist at the same time.
Bobby Chaumont scored the next RiverKings goal, and what turned out to be the eventual game-winning goal, at 4:55 of the second period. It would be Chaumont's team-leading 26th goal of the season.
The power play went back to work in the third period, when Jeff Alcombrack scored with the man advantage at 1:07 of the third frame for a 3-0 RiverKings lead.
Sebastien Thinel scored the Jackalopes' first, and only goal, of the game, with a power play goal at 7:56 of the final period, making the score 3-1 Mississippi.
The RiverKings finished off the scoring with a power play goal scored in the slot from Matt Pierce late in third period at 18:03.
Mississippi out shot the Jackalopes 33-22, including 14 shots in the second period. The RiverKings were 3-for-10 on the power play, while Odessa was 1-for-7. Winning goaltender Kevin Beech (23-10-2) stopped 21 shots, while Symington (6-2-1) made 29 saves, but allowed four goals.
