New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-The Scorpions started their six-game home stand in style with a 5-3 victory over Rapid City. Craig Macdonald led the offensive with a three point night.

New Mexico used their power play to vault to a first period lead. Macdonald found himself on a breakaway and opened up the night's scoring 12:05 into the first period. The Scorps went back to the man advantage and Jamie Herrington tipped in an Aaron MacInnis blast making it 2-0.

Following the second goal, the Rush replaced starting goaltender Miguel Beaudry in favor of Lanny Ramage. Minutes later Paul Kelly jumped on a bouncing puck inside the offensive zone and scored his first goal of the season.

The Rush tied the game up as John Pelle found a backdoor rebound at the 3:01 mark. New Mexico reclaimed the lead when Macdonald lifted the puck over Ramage for his second goal of the game.

Seth Leonard gave the Scorps back a two-goal lead with a snap shot from the bottom of the circle 4:23 into the final frame. Things tightened up as Rich Hansen stuffed a loose puck to the back of the net. With seconds remaining Torren Delforte sealed the victory with an empty net goal.
