RiverKings news and notes

October 28, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

For the first time this season, the RiverKings will play a team outside the Northeast Division. On Tuesday night, they will host the Tulsa Oilers. With the Texas Brahmas resurrecting themselves, the Oilers moved back to the Northwest Division this season. The RiverKings won six of the eight meetings last season between the teams as the Oilers finished last in the division.

Following the game against the Oilers, the RiverKings will have a home-and-home weekend series with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, who they have defeated twice already this season. Friday's game will take place at CenturyTel Center, where the RiverKings won this past Friday 2-1. Saturday's game will happen at the DeSoto Civic Center, where the RiverKings defeated the Mudbugs 2-1 on opening night on October 19.

WEEK IN REVIEW (1-0)

Last Friday: Mississippi 2, Bossier-Shreveport 1

Ryan Held and Steve Makway scored 58 seconds apart late in the third period to lead the 'Kings over the 'Bugs. Held took a cross-zone pass from Derek Landmesser and beat John DeCaro over the glove hand from the right wing side with 7:55 remaining in regulation to tie the game. With 6:57 to go, the 'Bugs allowed Makway to skate from his left point position to the top of the circle, where he blasted a shot past DeCaro through the 5-hole. Sebastien Centomo made 27 saves in his first game back with the 'Kings. Fifteen of those came in the first period.

RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE

Strange but true facts

Derek Landmesser is the only RiverKing to record a point in all three games this season. He has a goal and three assists ... Unlike the first two games of the season, Ryan Campbell did not score a goal last game. However, an assist increased his point-scoring streak to three games ... With Makway breaking the tie last game, the RiverKings have had both game-winning goals come from defensemen. Jason Lawmaster scored the winner on opening night ... One goal has decided each of the RiverKings' three games so far this season, and each goal of decision has come in the third period ... Rick Kozak is the only player on the team with a +2 rating ... Eleven RiverKings have at least one point already after three games.

Trick or treat!

For Tuesday night's RiverKings game against the Oilers, fans can come to the game "dressed up" for Halloween Night. The DeSoto Civic Center will hold a costume contest with prizes including game tickets and autographed memorabilia. The evening will also feature an on-ice pumpkin-decorating contest. However, contestants won't need carving knives. This will simply serve as a painting contest. Check out www.riverkings.com and your local papers for a kids' pumpkin coloring contest. The winner of that will get to ride the zamboni.

Under the B . . . a cow patty!?

The Kings Court Booster Club and the Junior StreetKings will present the first-ever Cow Patty Madness on Saturday, November 17 at 11 a.m. at the Hernando Civic Center. Both groups will share the proceeds from this event, which will take place on a giant bingo card at an HCC field. They will sell tickets for card squares until November 10. On the day of the event, Betsy the cow will conduct some very personal business for all to see. The winner Betsy "selects" will receive 20 percent of the profits.

Need a flu shot? Come to a game!

Shots on the Spot of Bartlett will administer vaccinations at the DCC on Saturday, November 17 as the RiverKings host the Mudbugs. The game won't start until 7:05 p.m., but fans can enter as soon as 6 p.m. to receive influenza, Hepatitis B, pneumonia, and Vitamin B-12 shots at normal costs. Shots on the Spot will make vaccines available to fans until the end of the second intermission.

Head to The Boiling Point after every home game

Join the RiverKings' players and fans at their "Official Post-Game Party Spot" after every game this season. The Boiling Point is located conveniently by the DeSoto Civic Center on the corner of Church Road and Pepper Chase Drive.
