Brahmas win home opener

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Texas Brahmas added another victory to their season with a 4-3 win over their Northeast rivals, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in their home opener at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
Although the first period was filled with 12 penalties, Brahmas forward Anders Strome started the night with a powerplay goal from Blair Manning and Scott Sheppard.
The Brahmas began the second period shorthanded, but were able to kill the penalty. The Mudbugs woke up in the second period as they hammered 15 shots at Brahmas goaltender, David Cacciola. Tyrel Lucas finally found a hole, and scored the Mudbugs first goal. Four minutes later, the Mudbugs struck again with a goal from Daniel Pegoraro. Brahmas forward, Scott Sheppard, added a goal at the 10:01 mark, making it his fourth of the season. Before the period ended, Mudbugs forward Darryl Lloyd quieted the Brahmas with a goal of his own, putting the Mudbugs up 3-2.
The large and rowdy crowd at the NYTEX Sports Centre rejuvenated the home team for the third period as the Brahmas found themselves in a familiar position, rallying back from behind. Brahmas third star of the game, Scott Sheppard set up Anders Strome for his second of the night to tie the game 3-3 with just over four minutes remaining in the third.
In incredible fashion, the home opening crowd at the NYTEX Sports Centre were able to get the chance to see an extra period as the game went into overtime. The Brahmas had the advantage going into the five minute overtime due to a Mudbugs penalty at the end of the third.
In the end, effort paid off as Craig Minard slapped a goal by Mudbugs goaltender, John Decaro. The Brahmas are now 3-0 for the 2007-08 season, putting them in first place in the Northeast division. The Mudbugs have dropped to 0-4, placing them last in the Central Hockey League standings.
