Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Two third period, special teams goals were the difference on Sunday afternoon as the Laredo Bucks defeated the Corpus Christi Rayz 2-0 at the American Bank Center. The Rayz skated stride for stride with the Bucks, and held Laredo to a season-low two goals, but two was enough for Bucks netminder Dustin Traylen who made 18 saves for his second straight shutout and kept Laredo undefeated on the year. Corpus Christi fell to 1-3-1 on the season, and stumbled this weekend with a 0-2-1 trio, but will look to regroup in another three game weekend beginning Friday Night in Rio Grande Valley. The Rayz then return to the American Bank Center on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Tickets are on sale and available at all Ticketmaster outlets or the American Bank Center box office. The Rayz and Bucks played a very fast-paced first period, but for the third time in as many Rayz games this weekend, the clubs went into the second period scoreless. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 10-9.
In the second period, the frame was largely dominated by the Bucks, but Rayz netminder Jason Tapp was outstanding. Tapp made 16 second period saves and kept the teams tied heading into the third. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 16-3 in the frame.
The Bucks broke the tie in the third period with their fourth shorthanded goal of the season. Jef Bes stole the puck and neutral territory and skated into the Rayz zone where he found Serge Dube at the left side of the net. Dube poked the puck past Tapp at 6:11 to take a 1-0 lead. Laredo then added an insurance tally when Brent MacSween redirected a shot past Tapp for a Bucks power play goal at 16:42.
Tapp was terrific, making 32 saves on 34 shots, but took the loss, dropping his record to 1-3-1, while Traylen earned his second straight shuout and improved to 4-0 on the year. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 34-18. The Rayz were 0-2 on the power play and the Bucks were 1-5.
The Rayz are proud to be celebrating a decade along the Gulf Coast and invite all of South Texas to join in the fun of the 2007-2008 campaign. Season tickets and corporate packages are currently available through the Rayz office. For more information, please call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.
