Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs earned their first point of the season on Saturday night against Texas, despite falling to the Brahmas in overtime at the NYTex Sports Center . Former Mudbug Craig Minard scored the overtime game-winner only 58 seconds into the extra session.
The Mudbugs played a strong first period but weren't able to solve Texas goaltender and former Mudbug David Cacciola. Late in the period, the Brahmas set up a nice passing play as Scott Sheppard and Blair Manning set up Anders Strome in the slot to give Texas a 1-0 advantage.
The Mudbugs came alive in the second period with a three goal outburst. Bossier-Shreveport tied the game when rookie Tyrel Lucas took a pass from Daniel Pegoraro in the slot and fired a perfect wrist shot over Cacciola's shoulder for his first career professional goal. Less than four minutes later, Pegoraro followed with his first goal of the season, putting home the rebound of a Joe Ori shot. After the Brahmas tied the game up once again with a goal by Sheppard, the Mudbugs retook the lead again. Ryan Fairbarn's pass from the point deflected off of a skate and right onto the stick blade of Darryl Lloyd, who buried his first Mudbugs goal with 3:05 left in the middle frame. Chris Brassard earned the other assist on that goal, his team-leading fifth point of the season.
But for the third game in a row, a Mudbugs lead after two periods was erased in the third. Anders Strome scored again for Texas with under five minutes left in regulation to tie the game at three. Then in the overtime period, Minard scored from Grant Jacobsen and Justin Kinnunen to give the Brahmas a 4-3 victory.
Texas was 2-fo-6 on the power play in the game, while Bossier-Shreveport was 0-for-6. The Mudbugs outshot the Brahmas 29-23.
Next up for Bossier-Shreveport is their first meeting of the season with the Youngstown Steelhounds. That game is slated for Tuesday, October 30th at 7:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center .
